This month we’re pleased to feature Field of Kings as our artist of the month. You can find their latest album, Soiree, in our gift shop. The Folk/Rock/Alternative group features a pinch of Kentucky country served with a side of Blues. This year, Fiddle player, Anna Blanton was awarded first place at the Lanesville Heritage Fiddle Contest. You can also hear them play live at our Bal Masque Gala (details below).
Harrison County sculptor, Larry Beisler’s exhibit, “Organics II,” is still on display at the Pat Harrison School of Fine Arts + Design in Ogle Hall at Ivy Tech Community College. The exhibit runs through October 4,2012. Beisler, who lives and creates in his studio near Elizabeth, Indiana, has an extensive exhibition record in the Kentuckiana region, and has created work for the Louisville Ballet, Stage One and the Kentucky Opera.
Judy and Dick began collecting glass in 1996 and their collection has blossomed to include over 100 glass works and a glass jewelry collection from local, national and international artists such as Dale Chihuly and Stephen Powell.
The evening will include a tour of the collection, wonderful hors d’oeuvres and wine and a special performance by pianist Lemoyne Smith. Spend a leisurely fall afternoon strolling in the garden or enjoying the wonderful wooded view from the elevated terraces.

New Albany’s first Fiddle Fest is coming and we want you to be a part of it! The contest takes place during Harvest Homecoming on October 12th at 4 p.m. on the stage at Market and State streets. The categories, divided by age, are: Under 13; 13 -18; and 18+. There will also be a non-violin open class (bass, viola, cello, etc.).
To take advantage of early bird registration, competitors should send a $5 entry fee along with name, contact information, instrument and birth date to: The Arts Council of Southern Indiana, 820 E. Market St., New Albany IN 47150. The Deadline for early registration is October 1. After October 1st, the entry fee will increase to $10. Pre- registration is required. An evening of treats awaits you at our Halloween extravaganza and you are invited! The Bal Masque Gala will be held on October 20, 2012 from 8 p.m. – 1 a.m. at the historic Masonic Temple at 805 E. Market Street in New Albany. We’ll have special appearances by actors from The Drama Studio production of FRANKENSTEIN, a costume contest, tales of the past presented by the Bicentennial Living History Committee, a silent auction, scrumptious treats, and a cash bar staffed by the magical mixologists of 3rd Base Tavern. Musical entertainment kicks off with a performance by Field of Kings, followed up by the Horizontal Boogie Band.

Explore another world of imagination with the Visual Communications faculty at Ivy Tech, beginning on October 11th. This art show will feature the works of Todd Flatt, Melissa Dettlinger, Rob Koetter, Gordon Moffett, Vernon Town, Philip Vetter—and featuring Susan Mackowiak as Program Chair. An opening reception for the show will be held October 11th from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Pat Harrison Fine Arts + Design Gallery, Ogle Hall, Ivy Tech Southern Indiana.
