Knock on Wood III — January 17th through March 7, 2015


      The Arts Council of Southern Indiana (ACSI) opened a new exhibit on January 17, 2015 that features several local artists utilizing wood as their subject or medium. The ACSI’s Pat Harrison Gallery is located at 820 East Market, New Albany, IN 47150.

The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, will run from January, 17 until March 7, 2015. The reception for this event was on January 17th from 1 – 4 pm.

About the artists

Michael Wimmer, local artist and gallery owner is displaying his wonderful assemblage works. His works suggest a narrative using re-purposed objects.

Susan Harrison local print-maker and owner of Brick Street Studios will be exhibiting her organic woodblock prints and wood sculpture created from leftover renovation materials.

Katrina Pate, local artist creates event installations and one of a kind woodwork’s using re-purposed materials.

Bob Hubbuch, Retired Mechanic and Wood Artist began turning wood in 2005. His exquisite bowls and forms highlight wood imperfections such as worm holes, bark inclusions and spalting.

Michael Beringer local photographer will be exhibiting finely crafted black and white prints inspired by the unique character of wood.

Dennis Schaffner will be exhibiting his wonderfully unique baskets crafted from honeysuckle vine and re-purposed materials.

John Kemple retired wood buyer began making his fabulously crafted boxes and unique wood items at the age of 80. His works are sure to become family heirlooms.

Floyd Cornett, an auto body technician from Jeffersonville, started carving wood more than 15 years ago. Cornett says “The wood tells me what it’s going to be. I keep the wood for years. When I see something in the wood, I take away everything else.”

Kevin Nowlin of New Washington, IN, uses wood salvaged from Clark County barns, which date between 1790 and 1860, to create original, one-of-a-kind furniture.

Joe Emerson, Artist and ornithologist for a local estate, Joe creates pieces that reflect his love of the natural world.
