Gateway Project

About This Project

The Southern Indiana Gateway Project seeks to connect the communities of New Albany, Clarksville, Jeffersonville, and Utica through the construction of four artistic structures from recycled, “green” construction materials along the Ohio River in various park and community spaces. The ultimate goal of this project is to facilitate cohesion between the many arts and community organizations that exist in these four cities (as well as the cities themselves) in an unprecedented way. We hope to instill confidence within our individual and organizational volunteers who, by participating, will build eclectic skill sets and acquire extensive hands-on experience. We envision the Gateway Project will serve as a catalyst for further exploration into environmentally sustainable building and education, public art, and community-driven events in the region, creating a dramatic and measurable community impact.

Our concept is to assemble a team of artists, K-12 students, community organizations, donors, and sponsors from each of these four cities to collaborate, create, and construct a unique gateway-inspired public sculpture in each city.  These projects would highlight our community as one that embraces green initiatives and recycling, a community that grows and thrives by fostering creative arts and recreation.
